Besides Jon, I mean? I only got an F twice in my whole time in school--7th grade Home Economics and 11th grade physics.

And Emma said I was the only kid she ever had who took a hammer to her mousetrap car. Now I have a reason to visit those old bookstores on the Cape (as if the bookstore just being there isn't reason enough). I'll have to look it up--I'm sure it's been revised since you had it.

Besides, all those Eddings books on my shelf (because a certain someone made me read one and I became addicted and now own them all) are getting lonely. That reminds me--time to begin my yearly re-reading.Beccahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01573195570934029465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26815321.post-1152211872322307242006-07-06T13:51:00.000-05:002006-07-06T13:51:00.000-05:00I don't know, I got better grades in geometry than...I don't know, I got better grades in geometry than physics. Still that's probably pretty accurate. I can get 6 balls off the table lickety split. Getting numbers 7 and 8 is usually my downfall. I think I understand the geometry of pool pretty well but just have trouble with the execution. I do lose the majority of pool games I play, usually by scratching on the 8 ball or sinking it in the wrong pocket. It was a little novel to lose by someone else sinking the 8 ball.Everetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10803043142391446777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26815321.post-1152211636295195722006-07-06T13:47:00.000-05:002006-07-06T13:47:00.000-05:00Becca, that book was the Dictionary of Cultural Li...Becca, that book was the Dictionary of Cultural Literacy by E.D. Hirsch. It is a great book of general knowledge. I don't know whatever happened to the copy I had in high school. It was a nice hardback but it seems to have lost. I picked up a paperback ed. at a used book sale about a year ago.Everetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10803043142391446777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26815321.post-1152211512811370772006-07-06T13:45:00.000-05:002006-07-06T13:45:00.000-05:00Thank y'all for the kind words as well. I enjoyed teaching the class and I do like sharing the knowledge even if I get really nervous about actually doing it in a group teaching setting. I'd rather just sit in the group and throw out clarificatory information or points.Everetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10803043142391446777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26815321.post-1152206983587473052006-07-06T12:29:00.000-05:002006-07-06T12:29:00.000-05:00I was encouraged in my vocation as a mother as a r...I was encouraged in my vocation as a mother as a result of Everett's presentation. Doing diapers, grocery shopping and trips to the library loses some of it's spirituality when it happens every day. And also the way I've been doing them lately have almost zip for a spiritual focus! Thanks for the encouagement Everett!Tarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09327853756206724940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26815321.post-1152198029360311392006-07-06T10:00:00.000-05:002006-07-06T10:00:00.000-05:00I remember in high school, Everett had this huge b...I remember in high school, Everett had this huge book of esoterica mixed with academia, but I can't remember what it was called. I just know that on trips to speech meets or academic team matches, we'd pore through it to learn some new thing. My guess is that he's finally mastered the art of learning through osmosis.

As for his proficiency in pool--it's been awhile, but IIRC he knows enough about physics to start off strongly, then falls apart at the point when advanced geometry is required. That was the only way I could beat him--grind him down till the geometry kicked in.

But I don't think I managed to beat him often.

And if you're gonna try air hockey with Everett, get some strong, strong, padded gloves. I think I still have a dent in my middle finger thanks to him.Beccahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01573195570934029465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26815321.post-1152192822365094222006-07-06T08:33:00.000-05:002006-07-06T08:33:00.000-05:00Encyclopedia Britbubbica, I like to call him.Encyclopedia Britbubbica, I like to call him.annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13621915642420308973noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26815321.post-1152189916960641502006-07-06T07:45:00.000-05:002006-07-06T07:45:00.000-05:00Ah, I'll have to challenge Everett to some billiar...Ah, I'll have to challenge Everett to some billiards some time, then. I love to play pool! And Everett is, as my grandmother would have said, "one smart cookie."

Everett, I learned much from you on this post. I truly enjoyed it. Now I'm going to have to go to the library and read more about it. Speaking of libraries -how's your search for an MLS program? nag, nag, nagJenn-Jenn, the Mother Henhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01850119465505660438noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26815321.post-1152187896025528302006-07-06T07:11:00.000-05:002006-07-06T07:11:00.000-05:00I often "draft" Everett to teach in my adult class...I often "draft" Everett to teach in my adult classes because he is a veritable repository of knowledge about all things historical, spiritual, and theological, and that treasure trove needs to be shared. I understand "vocation" pretty well myself, but it had extra potency coming from Everett. Having Everett teach also breaks up the monotony of just me leading the class.

Watching Everett teach was a highlight of his visit for me. So was beating him again and again and again playing ping pong and pool. :-) Actually I'm not even that competitive, it was just ironic that Everett who plays these games a lot did not plaster me immediately. His opening break in the first game of pool terrified me: three balls went in immediately.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
