"Every word of God proves true;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him." Proverbs 30:5 (ESV)
"Aiya Earendil, Elenion Ancalima!" Frodo's cry in Torech Ungol that illuminates the phial of Galadriel. In Quenya (High Elven), "Hail, Earendil, brightest of stars!"

I actually had an EKU honors class on Tolkein. It was pretty neat, as we studied not only his work, but how his deep faith influenced his writing. We also listened to some recordings of radio interviews he did for the BBC on the subject.
I like the verse today; I'll have to add it to my list of verses I use when I'm down or discouraged.
Some day I think I'd like to take such a class. One of the professors here at Trinity offers one occasionally. The timing didn't work out the last time it was offered. I did take a similar class on C.S. Lewis my sophomore year at St. Olaf and I enjoyed it.
I like it when you get to study not just what the authors write, but what influenced them to write it. It's all the better when you hear it in their own words.
