Verse of the day

"Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides forever." Psalm 125:1 (ESV)

I have a friend who received this verse at his baptism. While he was in seminary he had the phrase "KI-HAR ZION" in Hebrew tattooed on his back (means "like Mount Zion"). One day while he was working out at a nearby health club somebody saw him and the strange writing on his back and decided he looked suspicious. My friend is partly of Lebanese descent and could possibly be mistaken for an Arab if you didn't look too closely. The suspicious person reported him to the F.B.I. as a possible terrorist threat. They came to investigate one day while he wasn't at the club. Fortunately the person at the desk knew who they were looking for and she set the F.B.I. straight. Not a terrorist, just a friendly seminary student with Hebrew on his back.
I think it's a good aspiration to so trust in the Lord as to never be moved.

I remember that story--that was about the time you were growing that beard to top all beards. I had the fear for a while that someone might mistake you for a terrorist, but since they were usually cleaner and neater, I sort of quit worrying about that. Love you anyway.

Dude, I saw a picture of that beard.

Yikes.

Don't do that again. It scared me.

Shoot, that beard scared Superman! He thought there might be kryptonite down in it, along with all the old food and cooties. I'm thankful it's gone for the nonce.

Did I ever see this beard? When you went to the zoo, did the gorillas try to groom you? I'm glad it's gone. I remember you with a beard before (not sure if it was the beard to end-all-beards or not), but I do remember wondering why you'd want to hide a handsome face with all that hair.

Mom sent me a picture once she took of Everett after I moved to Arizona--out at Dover maybe? His hair was longer than mine at the time. I was quite shocked.

No beard, though.

Oh, I just remembered something. Tom wanted to see a picture of Everett once, since I had mentioned him quite a bit, and the only one I had was that really unflattering school picture where he's wearing the Georgetown Tigers t-shirt and has this drab look, like he's not firing on all cylinders.

Why that's the only picture out of dozens that I wound up with, I have no idea. Bubba, I am so, so sorry.

i have nothing to say, for the nonce, except that it's funny that people keep saying "for the nonce" on your blog. you started it.

okay, i do have something to say. i believe are much more handsome without the beard. i don't think you should cover that face up, either. and i like beards! but that's quite a face my brother has. the beard is a novelty. the face is a lady killer.
(did I embarass you? I tried to.)

Aw shucks. Thanks, Ann and Jenn. Actually I keep it covered for that very reason, don't want to kill anybody.
It was a fine beard but its time came.

My guys always talk about Bubba when we watch Harry Potter. "If Everett was 2 feet taller he would look like Hagrid!" He did honor my request to shave when he was best man in my wedding. :) Jim tries to grow a beard every year. I hate it!!!

I suppose it's better that Everett looks like Hagrid than like Grawp.

So when Bubba is clean shaven, does that mean he looks like a nun on the run?

I don't think my features are that close to Robbie Coltrane's.

That's the problem with deductive reasoning, right there.
